Suffering From A Whiplash Injury?

Whiplash from a recent car accident?

Sure, all of us has heard the term whiplash before.  We all know it’s because our head whipped backwards and forwards very quickly.

But, you may not even have felt immediate pain.  You may have thought that you were ok.  The next morning you wake up with neck pain and stiffness.

As the day goes on, you realize it’s getting worse.  You may even start to notice headaches, dizziness, numbness, tingling, or have a tough time remembering your phone number.

These can all be symptoms associated with your whiplash injury.

It never really affects one structure of the body.  Instead it can overstretch multiple structure.  Such as  muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, and nerves.  Which is the reason you are most likely feeling a range of different symptoms.

Luckily, recovery rate for these injuries are fairly high.

To help yourself, you must make sure you are not sitting or laying around.

It’s always best to perform light activity such as walking and stretching.

Here are other tips to for a full recovery:

  1. Keep your head in a neutral posture.  Which means avoid prolonged periods of looking down or up.

  2. Improve neck flexibility.  Attempt to slowly turn your head left and right.  Bend head left and right.  Repeat every 45 minutes, for ten repetitions each direction.

  3. Improve muscle strength.  As the pain starts to lessen.  Press lightly into your hands.  For example:  take your right hand and lightly press your head to the left as you resist the movement with your head.  Again, repeat every 45 minutes, for ten repetitions each direction.

  4. Attempt to get back into your normal routine as quickly as possible.  However, avoid any unnecessary activities until you have fully recovered.

  5. Lastly, STOP any and all activities that makes your pain worse.
